Suzanne Taylor, Stampin' Up! Demonstrator

I have been a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator since 2009 and love it more today than I did when I started! I love sharing the fun of paper crafting with others and seeing their joy as they create something beautiful.

Thursday’s Facebook Live Cards

September 5, 2020 Leave a Comment

Did you catch my Facebook Live last Thursday? We made some cute cards. I hope you enjoyed them.

I really enjoyed making this card. I used the new Rectangular Postage stamp punch. I punched out 4 of these shapes in whisper white and then grouped them together and stamped the Life Is Beautiful tree on them in Early Espresso. I separated them and stamped the sentiment in the lower right one and stamped just a bit of the tree again in the lower left one and just the edges of the limbs on the lower right. Then I stamped the leaves in pumpkin pie twice on one, in garden green on the one with the sentiment. I stamped the bubbles in pretty in pink after I stamped off first and the snowflakes in balmy blue. What season are the bubbles? I get fall with pumpkin pie leaves, summer with the garden green leaves, winter with the blue snowflakes…but what do the bubbles signify? Must be spring since that’s the only season left? Oh well. I thought pink went nicely with the other colors, so that’s why I stamped them in pink. I popped up the stamped images with dimensionals on a piece of early espresso and then popped that up on the DSP.

The base of the card is crumb cake cut 5-1/2 x 8-1/2, scored at 4-1/4. Then a layer of early espresso cut at 5-3/8 x 4-1/8. Then a layer of DSP from the beautiful plaid 6×6 DSP cut at 5-1/4 x 4. I adhered the DSP to the early espresso and wrapped linen thread around twice and tied a bow. Then I adhered the stamped images layers. On the inside I stamped just a bit of the tree on the left side and then put a strip about 3/4″ wide across the bottom. It was leftover from the 6×6 sheet of DSP when I cut the layer for the front. Such a pretty card for fall! What do you think?

I saw this technique and had to try it. I used the Gathered Together stamp set and the Gathered Leaves dies. These dies are amazing! If you don’t have them and the coordinating stamps, you really need them.

I used a thick very vanilla base cut 4-1/4 x 11, scored at 5-1/2. I added a layer of 4 x 5-1/4 of the Guilded Autumn DSP. It has some beautiful copper highlights. I used a strip of mint macaron cut 2-1/4 x 5 and a piece of the copper foil cut 2 x 4-3/4. I also cut a piece of very vanilla 1 x 1-1/2 and mint macaron cut 1-1/4 x 1-3/4.

We don’t have copper embossing powder anymore so I inked up the sentiment with versamark ink and then with cinnamon cider ink. Note: this will not hurt your cinnamon cider ink pad. Stamp the sentiment on the small very vanilla piece, sprinkle with clear embossing powder and heat emboss. It look like copper! You can do this with any of your inks so you can have embossing with any color we have. Be sure to clean your stamp right away after stamping because the versamark is thick and sticky and needs to be cleaned soon.

Now for another fun new to me trick! I saw this on youtube and had to try it. With our new Stampin Cut & Emboss machine, make this sandwich: Plate 1 (the thicker platform), plate 2, plate 3, the copper layer covered by the mint macaron layer, then lay the 3 beautiful leaves from the Gathered Leaves dies on top of the mint macaron layer being sure not to get too close to the edge. Cover with the other plate 3 and run through the die cutting machine. Here’s what happens – the dies cut out beautiful leaves from the mint macaron layer but only emboss the images on the copper. How cool is this! I kept the leaves that were cut out to use on another card.

Assemble the card together. Here is another tip. I used liquid glue to adhere the foil to the mint macaron layer. I used the bigger end of the glue to spread around the glue so that it didn’t leave any imprint on the foil. If you don’t spread it around until flat, it will leave an impression on the foil when you adhere it down. Pop up the mint macaron layer on the DSP and the right edge of the sentiment. Use a little glue under the left edge of the sentiment since the foil and mint macaron layer is already popped up.

I hope you enjoyed the Facebook live and these cards. If you don’t have a Stampin Up demonstrator, I’d love to earn your business. Please message me and let me know how I can help you.

Tune in on Mondays at 10 am for quick and easy cards and on Thursdays at 6 pm for stepped up cards and new techniques like these.

Take care. Be safe. Keep stamping!
